Once in Five-Year Affair
How strange that we never knew that we have so many friendly and helpful and kind members of parliaments and politicians until it’s Election time. Then we can find them making themselves seen and heard in public areas listening to the people’s woes and promising solutions to their problems; in the noisy, dirty wet markets among hawkers, shaking their hands and hugging them like brethren and old friends.
This is the only time they can be seen to mingle with the grassroots professing their love, their sacrifice for the people and the country. However, having witnessed a number of such campaigns over the decades, we just take all these at face value.
Just to share an excerpt from an article in yesterday’s Star Newspapers :
At a loss over offers from candidates
For divorcee Rogayah Che Yah losing all her possessions in a fire is least of her problems. Ever since her house was destroyed on Sunday, she has had constant offers of help from Barisan Nasional and PAS candidates, with one promising a home and the other promising to help her apply for destroyed certificates and documents.![]()
We have been staying in our area for years without seeing any policemen around. But, surprise! surprise! this morning there were 5 of them patrolling our area. Also, noticed the potholes at the junction of the kindergarten have all been nicely filled and tarred overnight! It’s a wonder how these people can be so efficient suddenly. Probably we should have Election an annual affair! ![]()
