The Ugly Side
Besides shopping for groceries in the supermarket, it can turn out to be quite an interesting outing just to observe how people shop.
For instance, I was at the fruits section when I noticed this lady using her thumbnail to press thru the skin of every apple to check if it were crunchy. No wonder it was so difficult to select blemishes free apples from a heap that had been displayed for a while.
Then there was this other ?dressed to kill? lady plucking off every not so perfect leaf of the lettuce, remove almost 20% of it in the process before she finally passed it to her maid to take to the weighing counter.
On another occasion, a kid was playing with the oranges ? literally throwing it on the floor yet his father didn?t even stop him let alone reprimand him.
I couldn?t help but secretly glared at him. He caught my glare, hesitated to pick up the next orange and quickly walked away.
Don?t these people feel any remorse or guilt at their selfish behaviour. And mind you, these people are educated, well-dressed, yet???! Bet you they would behave very differently if those were their own business. Wonder if this ugly side of consumers is only prevalent in Malaysia? ![]()
