What a Surround Sound!
Many people often pride themselves as living in an effluent neighbourhood among the rich and famous with names on the who’s who’s list. However, majority could be just like yours truly, residing among the mundane down-to-earth average income earners without being anything less colorful nor interesting.
From morning till evening, we have “Opera” a few doors away on the righthand side. The moment her husband leaves for work, she’ll be screaming and yelling her head off at her kids.
Often, we hear her telling her kids to shut up which we found totally amusing because she’s the only voice we hear from her house??? We truly admire her powerful vocal chords as she so diligently exercises them non-stop 8-5 each day, 6 days a week.
On our left there’s this young couple. One minute, they’ll be so openly flaunting their love for each other, with the husband calling the wife “Lou Poh” ever so loudly and the wife responding with “Lou Koong” but the next minute, they’ll be fighting until the wife ran away with the baby.
(”Lou Poh” means Wife and “Lou Koong” means Husband in Cantonese. This was the result of influence from the Hong Kong shows). A week later, she came back after the husband agreed to meet her “demands”. Unfortunately, it was just a lull before a storm. Few weeks later, they were fighting, with the husband beating her up. Strange way to add spices to their love life!
Directly behind, there’s this very hardworking lady who cooks 3 meals a day so spends most of her time in the kitchen. While she cooks, she’ll be happily singing her favourite oldies. Her voice is not bad but it was a waste that she always so bluntly kill it with her sudden outburst of foul language of cursing and swearing. So much for the budding ’singer’.
Opposite is ..oh..just an open field and a small children’s playground. With such interesting surround sound - on the left, right and back, glad we have some nature and happy voices and laughter of innocent kids playing there every evening to neutralise the impact of the stereo. ![]()
