Poor Show of Intelligence
Below is an excerpt from the Business section in today’s New Straits Times:
Singapore, Sun - The US-led wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have made the world a safer place, Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Tony Tan said in remarks published in the Sunday Times.
“Because of the vigorous actions taken by the US and the coalition, the strong efforts made by Singapore and other countries, the world is safer today than before the US went into Afghanistan and Iraq,” said Tan, who was visiting Washington.
“Our view in Singapore is that because of the actions taken, a substantial part of the al-Qaeda leadership has either been arrested or killed.
“And because all countries have taken measures to be more vigilant, we are in a much better position today. Singapore is certainly safer today.”
Making such statement to apple polish the Bush Administration definitely reflects badly on him as a country’s Deputy PM.
If he can’t think of anything intelligent to say, it’s best to hold his peace. He’s really talking thru his nose. In the first place, if Bush had not gone ahead with the Iraq war, the US and their coalition would not need to waste so much resources to beef up their security and have sleepless nights to guard themselves against terrorist attacks.
Well, based on his statement, it’s tantamount to saying people in Spore should be encouraged to commit more crimes in order for their govt to be more vigilant in coming up with better security measures. ![]()
