Friend Indeed
Due to some technical problems, my flight from KL to Spore was delayed. By the time I arrived at Changi Airport, it was already midnight. The hotels were running full and I was supposed to check in by 2000hrs. As soon as I reached the phone booth, I called the hotel to reconfirm my reservation. Alas! To my horror, I was informed that they had given my room away and there was absolutely no more spare rooms!
My next resource was to call my counterpart in Spore.
I was sure my friend she’d offer me shelter at her place afterall we were quite buddy and used to communicate regularly on business. However, I was to discover some hard facts.
Not only my friend did not offer me to bunk in with her, my friend wasn’t even concerned enough to offer to find alternatives for me. At that moment I really felt so lost, so alone and disappointed and sad. Whom can I turn to in the middle of the night.
My last resort was to call the International Manager whom I knew had arrived earlier to coordinate the conference. Despite being interrupted at such an hour, he was most concerned after hearing out my situation. He told me to take a cab to the hotel straightaway while he sorted out the accommodation for me in the meantime.
When I met him at the hotel, he’d already made arrangements to bunk in with another manager so I could take his room for the night. I was so touched by his actions and at a loss for words to express my relief and gratitude. Probably the look on my face showed it all. He just passed me the key and asked me to sleep well and not to worry. I will never forget his kindness. ![]()
