Capitalising on Others’ Misfortune
I picked up the following article in the Star Metro today:-
Remembering tsunami victims
THEY used 10 metric tonnes of rice flour to create a kolam of Jalur Gemilang that measured 210m long and 7m wide.
Residents and members of Taman Teluk Indah 2 Perai Ru- kun Tetangga, Butterworth, are hoping that their creation will get into the Malaysia Book of Records.
Together with the volunteers, they took five long hours to complete the flag.
In the midst of working on the project, the hat was passed around for tsunami victims and at the final count, a total of RM1,148 was raised with the money going to The Star Earthquake/Tsunami Relief Fund.RT secretary K. Prabakaran said it was heartening to see residents and volunteers getting together for this effort.
He said Padiberas Nasional Bhd (Bernas) sponsored the 10 metric tonnes of rice flour for the kolam.
“We have taped the event and will send it to the Malaysia Book of Records for certification,” he said.
Just can’t believe people can be so irresponsible to waste such precious resources during this time when the 10 tonnes of flour could well be channelled to save the many hungry Tsunami victims. And to claim the name of charity with a mere collection of RM1,148.00 when the cost of the flour is probably 10 times more. So where’s the logic. It was obviously a glamour seeking exercise. Sheer disgusting.
One very glaring example of unethical humans capitalising on people’s misfortune. Also, don’t reporters have better discretion than to waste space putting up such news ![]()
