A&W Root Beer has lost its novelty
Hungry? Well, if one wants a burger, naturally McDonalds would come to mind. If it’s fried chicken, first thoughts would be KFC. 
Thirsty? And if the urge is for a real well chilled root beer, then A&W would be the place….that USED to be my top of mind choice. Those days, A&W root beer used to be served in well chilled thick heavy glass mugs that helped to keep the A&W root beer really cold till you suck up the last drop.:whistle: I used to love going to A&W just to enjoy the cold ice chilled root beer and the nostalgic experience of it served in the big glass mug but not anymore. 
A&W have switched to serving the root beer (or float) in cheap paper cups!:mrgreen: The cheap waxed paper cups don’t keep the root beer cold enough and the smell from the waxed paper cups actually spoil the original great unrivaled A&W root beer taste. It’s surprising that the A&W management failed to identify such critical flaws before making the switch from glass mugs to paper cups. Certainly cost cutting is the only thing A&W management has in mind. If you have experienced the real A&W great root beer that used to be served in those thick heavy mugs and now tried the cheap waxed paper cup A&W root beer that tasted more like A&W wax beer 
…you’ll be wanting something else to rid that waxy after taste.
Obviously whoever’s bright idea to replace the glass mugs with paper cups never knew the difference between a great mug of thirst quenching signature A&W root beer and an ordinary cup of fizzy drink. Being marketing oriented and able to identify one’s product strength helps to differentiate and position one’s product above the ordinary. No wonder A&W is still in a rut despite being in Malaysia for umpteen years. 
A&W was the first fast food chain to set foot in Malaysia, way before KFC or McDonalds. Today, KFC and McDonalds are available everywhere but sad to say, A&W had stagnated thru the decades. In fact it’s tough trying to locate one even in the city and some A&W outlets that we remembered have now disappeared.
