Wrong Connection
My husband received a SOS call from his niece on her PC network connection.
She was unable to log on to the Internet when she tried to network her new notebook and her desktop PC.
In trying to troubleshoot where the problem was, my husband first asked her to check if she had the correct cables plugged to the right sockets. Since she was affirmative, he proceeded to have her check the network connections info shown on the notebook. :???:
She sounded quite lost so ‘uncle’ (my husband) had to literally guide her by the hand.
As it was thru the telephone, he had to tell her to “click on ’start’ then move your cursor over to the right panel and click on “My Network Places” then click on “View network connections”. Then he asked her “Now can you see your desk top (icon) from your notebook?” Her reply over the phone was “Ah,….. I am confused! …. ah ….I’m actually facing my notebook and the desktop now….. and ….. yeah I can see them both…..”
Mind you, my husband was totally astounded by his niece’s spontaneous innocent reply. Too flabbergasted to continue the conversation, he told her to call back in a few minutes.:omg:
After a while, he called her back (she was still struggling with the problem) and continued the tele-technical support. My husband’s hunch was she had misconnected some cables despite her claiming the wires were all correctly connected. So, Mr Technical Expert threw her some checking questions to see if she really knew the difference between a phone cable and a network cable. And discovered that she actually used the telephone cable instead of the network cable to connect her notebook to the router.:frusty:
When she got the right cables sorted out, BINGO! It was all system go. She sure had wrong connections thru and thru! Hee…….hee.:naughty:
